A True Wife

"A true wife makes a man's life nobler, stronger, grander, by the omnipotence of her love 'turning all the forces of manhood upward and heavenward.' While she clings to him in holy confidence and loving dependence she brings out in him whatever is nobles and richest in his being. She inspires him with her courage and earnestness. She beautifies his life. She softens whatever is rude and harsh in his habits or his spirit. She clothes him with the gentler graces of refined and cultured manhood. While she yields to him and never disregards his lightest wish, she is really his queen, ruling his whole life and leading him onward and upward in every proper path. -JR Miller

Instrument of Choice

We actually had the house to ourselves for a couple of hours last night. Hubby had finished the loopy Johnny (LJ) and had been waiting to try it out. So after the boys left he escorted me to the bedroom and proceeded to try out different instruments. I was able to stay in position over his knee for all of them except the LJ. Had he not had his hand on my back I would have been off his lap in a flash.

His favorite is the thin dowel (aren’t I just the luckiest) it is quiet and gets his desired effect so it will probably be his instrument of choice. The LJ on the other hand has been set aside for the most formidable punishment (PTL miracles never cease). He wasn’t too impressed with the brush, he thinks it is just the type of hair brush we have. My favorite is his hand but what woman doesn’t prefer her husband’s hand over all the other “evils”? He cut the small dowel in half so that he could use it while I was OTK. He left the large dowel intact and it will be used when I have to lean over a chair or the bed.

I will admit I will think twice now so I can avoid the LJ. He was swatting me very gently and it still stung. Words just can’t express the sting (well words that I dare use.)

He has been reading Taken in Hand (http://www.takeninhand.com ) and is incorporating things he has read there into our relationship. Things that he has incorporated can be used whether there other people in the house or not. So I am not off the hook so to speak if there are a dozen or so college kids piled up in the living room playing on the Wii or PS3 or watching a movie.

And the looks! He has perfected “The Look” you know the one that mother’s give children when they are misbehaving. Man! He is good…he is a fast learner LOL. Maybe he could do it before and I just didn’t notice but he can arch that eyebrow and cut his eyes at me and stop me dead in my tracks; makes my heart go pitter patter.

All of this is teaching me to slow down and wait on him. Hubby is the type he has to have all the information in front of him it read and studied before he makes a move. He does not jump into something feet first without being prepared, unlike someone else in the family J

We have started addressing some of my bad habits that drive him insane. First one is I eat really really fast…years of hospital work and multi-tasking. He knows I am trying to loose weight and this is a big hindrance to the process so he is addressing it. I wonder how many more there are? Humm….

  1. My Dragon likes the LJ but would rather use the paddle. His hand is an instrument of love and never punishment. Sometimes I wonder what I have gotten myself into but the results are worth a sore backside.

  2. The Taken in Hand site is a wealth of information. Before I suggested "this thing we do" to SugarAnne, I spent over a year reading the articles and incorporating some things that I had learned into our relationship. I could see changes in our relationship almost immediately. I think it really paved the way for her consent to "ttwd". I'm sure hubby (and your relationship) will benefit greatly from hanging around there.

  3. Haven't really tried the LJ yet. Sort of cautious about it. I think it only takes a flick of the wrist.

  4. Yes Mick it and the dowels both only take a flick of the wrist. Like I said had it not been for his hand I would have been off his lap in a heart beat. I can see me now on my knees begging and pleading if he ever pulls out the LJ.

  5. Loved, loved, LOVED the last two paragraphs. Reminds me of... me :) (Sean is crazily prepared, well-thought, and appropriately cautious! Me, not so much!) Trying to lose weight on this end too, someday I'll remember to blog about how we've done/doing it...

  6. Do you actually own all of those implements in that picture? Yikes if you do! We have two loopy johnnys and I really dread them. Awful things. We have older children as well so we need quiet implements. Keep on avoiding! ;) Galway

  7. NO! Galwaygiirl that is just a picture I found on line. We have 4 if you count his hand...the hairbrush, the dowels, the LJ and his hands. Believe you me those are more than enough!
